In this new age of mobility, the problem of Financial Inequality of the carless is getting even worse – as the prices of new and used vehicles continue to increase, even lower middle-class households are feeling the strain. For poor households, private vehicle ownership is becoming increasingly out of reach. While the push towards electric vehicles and new technologies is good for the planet in the long-term, these efforts only exacerbate the carless problem in the short-term with higher vehicle pricing. For the first time, there is a thriving demand for “gig” driving services and drivers, both delivery and car sharing, in almost every area of the country, making a working motor vehicle an income producing asset.
